Everyone gets involved in Sports Day on the Darley Playing Fields

Our Year 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 children are regular visitors to Nidderdale High School where they take part in sport activities.

Although we are a small school we take part in many cluster sporting events which are held mainly at Nidderdale High School.  We regularly take part in tag rugby, football, hockey, netball, multi-skills and athletics tournaments.  In recent years we have won the football and netball competitions which was a great effort from all involved!  We are part of the Harrogate School Sports Partnership - this is a group of schools that take part in numerous sporting events over the school year. Click on the link for further information about the partnership:

We achieved the Silver Award for School Games in 2015 - 2016 in recognition for our involvement in School Sport.

In school our curriculum is designed around the 6 key areas of Physical Education: Games, Athletics, Gymnastics, Dance, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities and Swimming.  We also teach Health Related Exercise and both KS1 and KS2 receive two lessons of PE per week.  Our aim is to ensure that all our children regardless of ability are given the opportunity to reach their physical potential in all the areas of PE that we teach. For 2015 - 2017 our school received the Silver Quality Mark for PE provision in school.

Our school's PE is co-ordinated by our headteacher, Nick Coates, who trained as a Primary PE teacher at Bangor University.  He also delivers PE CPD training to the Dales Teaching School Alliance in one day workshops - 'Teaching Teachers to Teach PE' and is able to visit teachers in their own settings and offer additional support.

High Ropes at Bewerley ParkHigh Ropes at Bewerley ParkPE and School Sport Funding

All Primary Schools in England have received  funding to promote Physical Education and School Sport within their settings.

Of the £8,500 funding that we have received we have allocated the following amounts to the following areas:

13% allocated to membership of the HSSP.  This includes involvement in local competitions and provides financial support for the partnership's members of staff.

22% allocated to transportation to and from events.

25% allocated to subsidise swimming lessons.

10% allocated to re-newing sports equipment.

30% allocated to external coaches and specialists.

Over the course of 2015/2016 the Sports Funding will help raise the profile of school sport.  Not only will the children benefit from more opportunities to take part in cluster sports events as well as taking part in a five session Outdoor Education programme, they will also benefit from subsidised travel to and from events and the re-newel of sports equipment.  This year (2016) it is our intention to enter as many cluster run events as possible to ensure that our children get the opportunity to represent their school and to improve on last year's achievement and gain the Silver sportsmark.
